The following resources less specific than those in the Holyoke Reports. They are more general reference tools and we hope that they will supplement the more specific resources available through the other links on this site. We provide both reports, and websites of possible interest.

Births to Teenagers in the United States 1940-2000
This report by the National Vital Statistics examines the birth rate of teenage mothers. The report categorizes the teenage birth rates of mothers by race, age, and select counties.

Community Health Status Report (Hampden County)
This report discusses health indicators for Hampden County. The report contains data on cause of death, demographic information, as well as, birth and death rates categorized by age and disease.

Community Health Status Report: Data sources, definitions, and Notes (Hampden County)
This report is a partner to the Community Health Status Report. It defines health indicators, as well as, states the sources and methods used to obtain the data.

Healthy People 2010
These reports examine the health of people within the United States, and recommends steps to take for a healthier lifestyle.

Health Risks and Preventive Behaviors
This report provides results from the behavioral risk factor surveillance system (1994-1999). It compares data from Holyoke with state data, and when available national data.

Massachusetts HIV/AIDS Review Spring 2001
This report provides information from the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Program concerning people living with HIV/AIDS in Massachusetts.

Websites

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality provides “evidence-based information on health care outcomes; quality; and cost, use, and access. Information from AHRQ’s research helps people make more informed decisions and improve the quality of health care services. AHRQ was formerly known as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.”

The US Census Bureau should be used for official census numbers. It has a lot of resources including maps. www.census.gov

Center of Health Policy and Research promotes and engages in health policy and health services research and related clinical, educational, and public service activities at UMass in the interest of improving the health status of the people of the Commonwealth.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention provides information concerning diseases prevention and control, environmental health and promotion, as well as, educational activities. Information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is intended to assist people improve their health.

Commonwealth Communities has a summary of data for the City and can also be a source for all cities in the commonwealth. www.state.ma.us/cc/holyoke.html

The Division of Employment and Training contains employment information over a period of time for Holyoke including which sectors people in Holyoke work in and how much they make. http://www.detma.org/lmi/dataprog.htm

Health Resources and Services Administration provides a comprehensive collection of health resources and services including state profiles and grant information.

The Institute for Health Policy at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Partners HealthCare System, Inc. (PHS) is “dedicated to conducting world class research on the central health care issues of our time. The Institute is closely affiliated academically with the Harvard Medical School's Department of Medicine and Health Care Policy and with the Division of General Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. These affiliations give the Institute the dual benefits of exposure to the everyday problems of health care delivery and of access to some of the nation's leading health services and outcomes researchers.” The Institute comprises the Center for Health Policy Research (CHPR) and the Center for Health System Design and Evaluation (CHSDE).

Massachusetts Community Health Information Profile(Masschip) provides health and social information profiles for cities and counties in Massachusetts. The data is presented in two forms: instant topics and customized reports.

Masschip -demonstration information provides information on tutorials for Masschip.

Massachusetts Department of Public Health is a state agency that “works to ensure that the people of the Commonwealth receive quality health care and live in a safe and healthy environment and builds partnerships to maximize access to affordable, high quality health care.”

MA Division of Health Care Finance and Policy contributes to the development of policies that improve the delivery and financing of health care in Massachusetts.

MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services provides general information regarding healthcare policy in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Health Policy Forum was created in 1998 to bring public and private health care leaders to engage in discussions regarding critical issues in health care policy.
